Defying the career norms: From James Bond to a Cycling Record
When I moved to the USA after high school I wanted to become a secret agent.(I must have watched too much James Bond!) So I studied International Security at Georgetown with the focus on nuclear weapons in North Korea and Iran.
It did not work out.
My struggles with societal norms of a career path, my professional cycling stint and my move to a place I have never been before to search for the purpose in life that is what I share in this talk. More than ever important questions and issues told in a humorous and entertaining way, the takeaways of this talk are:
- It is ok to have a non-linear career path and you can still succeed
- Try and getting outside your comfort zone is crucial to reach one`s full potential
- Don`t let anyone tell you what you cannot do.
- Success is more than achieving goals
- A support network is essential to overcome barriers
Diversity is no ``window dressing``
- Diversity goes beyond gender inequality and reflects the values of the company
- To present itself to the outside world, it must be lived from within the company
- Diversity must be driven by leadership
- 4 ways to implement diversity in the company
Confidence & Courage: A seemingly impossible cycling record.
When I decided to set a cycling record riding as the first woman the Vuelta a Espana, 80% of the people told me it was impossible. Not only the physical aspect of riding 3000km and 48000m elevation in 21 days but the whole logistical part of it as well: Finding sponsors, having a support vehicle, food, drinks, hotels, media coverage and the accreditation that I would allow me to cross the finish line. Could I do it?
In this talk, I share:
- What it takes to pursue a seemingly impossible goal
- The importance of a support network
- Confidence and courage that drives success
- You are a role model for your actions
How to have the courage to think and act big!
Are you afraid of making decisions? Do you lack self-motivation or focus for your tasks? Do you give up easily? A “yes” to at least one of these questions indicates that you might not live to your full potential. Monika explains in this seminar what it means to live to your best. The simple but powerful concept can help you make the necessary steps to thrive in your life through self-confidence, resilience, courage, decision-making and more. Team leaders can apply the same concept to create a motivating and inclusive work environment for their employees.
Women and the power of the bicycle
As a cycling record holder, leadership consultant and World Bicycle Relief advocate, Monika has one mission: To empower women reaching their full potential. In this seminar, she shares her story about what it means to go for a seemingly impossible cycling record to inspire women to believe in themselves and take on big challenges. She gives insight into her contribution to solve the gender disparity in the cycling industry. And as an advocate, she explains the powerful mission of the non-profit organization, World Bicycle Relief, how it helps women and girls thrive in rural regions. A woman who walks her talk!
How Women Successfully Lead the Way
Women tend to be more hesitant when pursuing big goals, especially in their professional career. When it comes to selling oneself, talking about salary or taking on big responsibilities, women are inclined to undersell themselves. In this workshop, women learn how to boost their self-confidence, overcome challenges, embracing changes and taking risks to thrive and rise to the top. (Also available as workshop)
